Congress loses power in Puducherry, Chief Minister Narayanasamy resigns

Puducherry Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy submitted his resignation to Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan after a motion of confidence moved by him on the floor of the Legislative assembly was defeated.

Resignations from five members of Congress including two ministers and one from DMK in the recent weeks and also the disqualification of a Congress legislator had reduced the Government to a minority.

The Lieutenant Governor called a meeting of the House to prove its majority to the Government. CM Narayanasamy moved a Motion of Confidence on the floor, there was an argument after his speech and he walked out along with his MLAs.

Speaker V. P. Sivakozhundu announced that the government has lost its majority.
