New Delhi: The BJP, which is holding public rallies in support of Citizenship Amendment Act, exposed Congress’ “double standards” over the new law and announced an extensive campaign to dispel ‘misplaced’ criticism.
BJP MP and spokesperson GVL Narasimha Rao accused Congress for their involvement in “politics of duplicity and expedience” over CAA. He exposed Congress’s 2018 Rajasthan assembly election manifesto which promised all-round development to refugees from Pakistan, including grant of citizenship and rehabilitation.
“I have in my hand the manifesto of Congress for the Rajasthan assembly elections 2018. Item number 27 of this manifesto relates to governance. They claim citizenship rights in this and there is a promise about which they are lying today,” he said.
“Rahul Gandhi was then Congress president,” he added.
Ashok Gehlot had also written to the then prime minister Manmohan Singh recommending citizenship to Hindus and Sikhs who got displaced from Pakistan, said Rao.
