Facebook blocks news content on its platform in Australia

Facebook has decided to blackout news content from its social networking site in Australia due to the Government’s new media bargaining laws.

Facebook said it will stop allowing publishers and people in Australia from sharing local and International news on Facebook and Instagram.

The social media platform, Facebook, has been used to reach out to audiences, but now all the pages used by news outlets and individual users who share Australian news content have been wiped clean by Facebook.

Facebook has taken this step against the Australian Government which plans to force the technology giants to pay publishers for their news content.

Australia is trying to get technology giants like, Facebook and Google to pay for the news that is shared on their sites.

“The proposed law fundamentally misunderstands the relationship between our platforms and publishers who use it to share news content,” Facebook said in a blogpost announcing the move.

Google has already warned them of withdrawing its search services from Australia but at the same time started revenue-sharing agreements with publishers.

Facebook said that publishers willingly choose its platform to share news content to grow their audience and sell more subscriptions.

This sudden move by Facebook to block news content has sparked outrage and the people of Australia condemned and criticized this decision.
