New Delhi: Supreme Court Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde has sworn in as the 47th Chief Justice of India on Monday succeeding Justice Ranjan Gogoi. The oath was administered by President Ram Nath Kovind.
S. A. Bobde will hold the office of CJI for 18 months and will retire on 23 April, 2021. Bobde’s name was recommended by the outgoing CJI, Ranjan Gogoi, last month.
Bobde was appointed as Additional Judge at the Bombay High Court in 2000. He became the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2012 and was elevated as Supreme Court Judge in April 2013. He was part of the five-judge bench which gave the historic Ramjanmabhoomi case.
