Kochi: As per the order of the Supreme Court, flats built illegally in Maradu has been demolished. Two of the four apartment complexes have turned into dust.
To start off with, after the first four sirens, H2O Holy Faith complex, a 19-floor building with 91 apartments was demolished. 1471 holes were filled with 212.4 kg of explosives.
“The first explosion was successful,” Utkarsh Mehta, the managing director of the main contractor Edifice Engineering, said.
In a few moments, Alfa Serene twin towers were demolished and reduced to a pile of concrete rubble. 3598 holes were filled with 343 kg of explosives.
However, it is suspected that parts of debris have fallen into the lake. According to initial reports, one side of the Alfa Serene tower has collapsed into the lake.
The preliminary reports state that there has been no damage caused to the surrounding areas.
The remaining two buildings Jain Coral Cove and Golden Kayaloram will be brought down on Sunday.
The Apex Court had last year ordered to demolish the flats for violation of the Coastal Regulation Zone norms.
