Kollam: A group of migrant workers staged a protest in Kollam demanding train facility for them to return to their native place. These migrant workers do their job in fishing boats in Chettikulangara and Neendakar areas.
The migrant workers have lost their jobs after lockdown was imposed and it will further the crisis when trawling ban will be imposed from June 9. Due to the rising crisis, they gathered at Thoppilkadavu area demanding facilities to return home.
The migrant workers initially did not follow police’s order to return leading to lathi charge to disperse them.
Earlier, a train to West Bengal had conducted service. However, no train was availed for them later.
The workers first gathered in front of the collectorate, but returned when the police arrived at the scene.
