Munnar: Heavy rains have caused massive landslide at Rajamala in Munnar of Idukki district on Friday at about 4 am. Early reports suggested that 20 houses were buried under the mud.
Rajamala ward in Munnar gram panchayat lies 28 km north east from Munnar town. The incident happened at the Pettimudi Division of Kannan Devan’s tea estate at Neymakkadu in Idukki.
Due to the heavy downpour, the Periyavarai bridge has also collapsed. There has been no electricity in the region for the last three days and therefore the extend of the danger is yet to be ascertained.
