Idukki: One shutter of Idukki dam was raised by 70cm. 50 cumex of water flows through this. The shutter was opened due to the warning from Meteorological department that the water level may rise again as the rain continues in the state. Alert was issued in the coastal areas of Periyar.
The water that flows from the dam will reach first at Cheruthoni town. From there it will reach Thadiyambad, Karimban regions. Later it will flow into Panniarkutty River and then to Periyar. This water will directly reach the Pambla Dam. From there, through Lower Periyar, the water reaches Neriyamangalam. Then the water reaching the Bhuthankett will join the Periyar with the water from the Idamalayar dam. This water will flow together and reach the Aluva areas through Kaladi. At Aluva, the Periyar by halves and joins the Arabian Sea.
As a part of the precaution process, notice were given to 79 families who were staying on the bank of Periyar and 23 places were found to start camps. Warning was issued in Idukki, Kanjikkuzhi, Thankamani, Vathikkudi and Upputhod villages.
