Thiruvananthapuram: Health ministry is still inactive in managing the stray dog attacks that are increasing in the district. Criticisms are raising about the delay in the investigation on rabies death and it is said that the initiatives put forward by different departments have failed.
The attacks of stray dogs have increased three times more than that of the last year. Many people have been admitted to the hospital including a 12 year girl who was attacked by a stray dog in Pathanamthitta.
Sterilization of stray dogs has been planned to be implemented on a large scale, but the approach is in a snail’s pace. 96000 people got bitten in six months and 1059000 people got bitten in the last six years. 56 people died including people who received anti-rabies vaccination. The investigations on all these incidents are getting delayed.
There are strong demands that these things should be resolved immediately and the health ministry must adopt solutions on all those matters.
