New Delhi: In order to curb criminalisation of politics the Supreme Court on Thursday directed all political parties to publish the reasons on websites for selection of candidates with criminal records.
The political parties have to publish achievements, credentials, and criminal antecedents of candidates on social media platforms, their websites and newspapers while mentioning the reason behind selecting a candidate with a criminal background.
A bench of Justices RF Nariman and S Ravindra Bhatt passed the order.
The parties will otherwise be held responsible for contempt if they fail to do so. The SC has also asked the Election Commission to file a contempt plea before the SC if any party do not follow the order.
