New Delhi: In a big win, the Supreme Court on Monday upheld the rights of Travancore Royal Family in the administration of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at Thiruvananthapuram.
The Supreme Court dismissed the state government’s demand to take over the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple and accepted the claim of the Royal Family that they have authority over the temple. The top court said that death will not affect the rights of shebaitship of the family over the deity, and it will continue according to the custom.
The SC had earlier dismissed the Kerala High Court’s ruling that the state government has authority on the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple.
Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple, one of the richest temples in the world, had been over a controversy over the administration and management of the temple. The historic temple’s case had been pending in the apex court for last nine years in the wake of charges of alleged financial irregularities.
“We wholeheartedly welcome Supreme Court verdict on Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. It re-establishes our family’s connection with Lord Sree Padmanabha. The family is happy about it. We’re looking forward to reading the full verdict,” Adithya Varma, royal family member of Travancore told ANI.
