New Delhi: After senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said it was wrong to “demonise” Prime Minister Narendra Modi, his party colleague Shashi Tharoor came in support of his statement.
“It is time we recognise Modi’s work and what he did between 2014 and 2019 due to which he was voted back to power by over 30 per cent of the electorate,” Ramesh had said. He had also cited how successful the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUJ) had turned out to be for the Prime Minister.
Shashi Tharoor said, “I have argued for six years now that Narendra Modi should be praised whenever he says or does the right thing, which would add credibility to our criticisms whenever he errs. I welcome others in the opposition coming around to a view for which I was excoriated at the time.”
Tharoor said that certain good work done by Modi has entered into the hearts of the public and added that he is not the prime minister of the BJP but of the nation. He added that while there are several reasons to criticise when good things are done, he should be praised.
Tharoor added that if there are 99 wrongs in 100, the one right has to be praised otherwise the people will raise questions. There will be a trust deficit if complaints are always raised against Prime Minister Modi.
