New Delhi: Union Minister Smriti Irani has hit out at Congress for raising the issue of funding to the PM Cares Fund.
While addressing a virtual rally for BJP workers in coastal Maharashtra, Irani also said that the funds also helped the Gandhi family as well.
“There is enough evidence that Sonia Gandhi has taken money for Rajiv Gandhi Foundation. It has helped her family as well. The then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh ensured the foundation got Rs 100 crore. Why has Congress been accepting donations from the Chinese Embassy,” Irani was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
Her statements come after Congress alleged that PM-CARES Fund was receiving funds from Chinese firms when both the countries are in a border tension in Ladakh.
Congress spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi said at a virtual media briefing on Sunday, “What is most worrying and alarming for national security is the fact of donations received by Prime Minister Modi from the Chinese companies in his (seemingly personal) PM CARES Fund.”
