New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry has approved the renaming of Manduadih railway station in Uttar Pradesh as ‘Banaras’, officials said on Monday.
The Uttar Pradesh government had sent a request for renaming the railway station in Varanasi district.
North Eastern Railway (Varanasi division) public relations officer Ashok Kumar said, “It is the best station in Varanasi division in terms of facilities. It is equipped with an air-conditioned lounge, world-class retiring room, digital chart facility, a cafeteria and food plaza. Its architecture is unique and looks like an airport.”
Varanasi, also known as Benaras, Banaras and Kashi, is also Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency from where he first won the Lok Sabha polls in 2014.
In October 2017, the name of Mughalsarai Junction, which is a prominent station in Uttar Pradesh near Varanasi, was changed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay junction.
