What is Sunburn? What are the symptoms of Sunburn?

When your skin is over-exposed to the harmful rays of the sun, causes skin inflammation. This inflammation caused due to overexposure is known as sunburn.

UVA and UVB are the ultraviolet rays that cause maximum damage to your skin. Overexposure to the sun triggers the development of melanin (color imparting pigment) on the upper layer of your skin or the epidermis, resulting in the formation of a tanned skin. Severe sunburn can damage your DNA also.

The most common symptoms of sunburn are:

1. Skin appears reddish in colour.
2. You may notice wrinkles.
3. On touching, your skin may feel hot.
4. Frequent itching sensation.
5. Blisters may pop out due to sunburn.
6. You may suffer from fever too and that may result in nausea.
7. Blood pressure can also reduce which can make you feel weak.
8. Your skin may be swollen.

Risk factors include:

1. Fair skinned people are more prone to sunburns.
2. Working outdoors for prolonged hours can cause severe sunburn.
3. Sunburn can hasten your process of aging.
4. The blisters can result in infections.
5. Sunburns can also result in the formation of skin lesions.
6. It can sometimes lead to skin cancer.

Now what are the solutions to treat sunburn?

1. Bathing in cold water to certain extent will give u relief.
2. Aloe Vera creams have cooling properties; applying aloe vera cream or gel on the affected areas can offer temporary relief.
3. Drink plenty of water to keep oneself hydrated.
4. Anti-inflammatory medicines like aspirin can help you to treat skin inflammation.
5. Home remedies like applying orange peel paste on the affected areas can help you to treat mild cases of sunburn.
6. Wear clothing that covers your skin when outdoors. Tightly-woven fabrics work best. When you hold the fabric up to a bright light, you shouldn’t see any light coming through.
7. Apply cool, not cold, milk with a clean cloth to your sunburned skin. The milk will create a protein film that helps ease sunburn discomfort.
