Thiruvananthapuram: The state has witnessed a surge in electricity consumption, hitting a record-breaking 5150 Mega Watts (MW). Experts attributed this surge to a substantial increase in peak-time demand among consumers, driven by the absence of monsoon rains and the soaring temperatures.
The widespread use of air conditioning units to combat the heat has further contributed to the escalating electricity consumption across the state. However, concerns have been raised by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) regarding a potential power crisis if these circumstances persist.
Compounding the situation, the state government has yet to settle its outstanding dues to KSEB, posing a significant financial challenge to the board. The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has clearly stated that the failure to receive these outstanding payments could trigger a significant financial crisis for the board.
