Majority is not equal to Majoritarian: BVK organizes a discussion on Kausik Gangopadhyay’s latest book ‘The Majoritarian Myth’

Thiruvananthapuram: The question of the majority versus the minority is a hotly debated topic around the world and especially in Bharat. An unscientific belief is widely prevalent that states that the majority is always guilty of oppressing the minorities.

The Hindus in Bharat has been bearing this guilt for long. Left-based academics and intellectuals siding with minorities have long used the ‘majority versus minority’ debate to guilt-shame the Hindus in their own country.

Professor of IIM, Kozhikode, Kausik Gangopadhyay, deliberated on this issue and has now come out with his latest book ‘The Majoritarian Myth – How Unscientific Social Theories Create Disharmony’ which discusses this topic deeply. He says that just blaming the majority community will not lead to harmony in society.

Gangopadhyay elaborates that the root of intolerance and disharmony comes from a community’s belief in a Linear Theory of Social Evolution (LTSE), which creates a moral impetus for intolerance in people’s minds.

Gangopadhyay’s book is a guide of how Hindus, being in the numerically majority, are subjected to ridicule and are blamed without any evidence. He compares the ‘majority versus the minority’ issue to a small vehicle hitting a large vehicle. Irrespective of the fact that the small vehicle was violating traffic rules, the general perception is that the large vehicle is to be blamed for the accident.

The Bharatheeya Vichara Kendram (BVK) is organizing a discussion on Kausik Gangopadhyay’s latest book ‘The Majoritarian Myth – How Unscientific Social Theories Create Disharmony’ on 30th March, 6pm, at the Samskrithi Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram.

The author of the book Prof. Kausik Gangopadhyay will be present at the discussion and a face-to-face talk is also scheduled with the author. Regional Director of IGNOU, Dr. R Rajesh will interact with Gangopadhyay.

Kausik Gangopadhyay is an economist and teaches at the IIM, Kozhikode.
