Thrissur: It was a ‘dream come true moment’ for RLV Ramakrishnan, who had faced casteist abuse, as he performed Mohiniyattam at Kalamandalam’s Koothambalam. The stage was prepared by the students’ union of Kalamandalam as sweet revenge against the dancer Satyabhama.
Expressing his profound joy, RLV Ramakrishnan shared that it was a ‘dream come true moment’ for him to finally have the opportunity to tie the anklet and perform at Kalamandalam. He mesmerized a packed audience of teachers and students with his Mohiniyattam performance, thus fulfilling his two-decade-long aspiration of performing at the revered Koothambalam.
The incident of insulting the renowned artist and dancer RLV Ramakrishnan came to light last week. In an interview with a YouTube channel, dancer Satyabhama stated that those who perform Mohiniyattam should embody the qualities of a Mohini, possessing enchanting or attractive traits. She also commented that Ramakrishnan’s complexion resembled that of a crow and remarked that even his own mother could not bear his displeasing appearance.
