Kottayam: A massive fire broke out in the shopping complex opposite Kottayam Medical College around 11 am today (Sunday). Initial reports indicate that the fire originated from ‘Thottathil Stores’, a shop within United Builders, the shopping complex facing the Medical College, before spreading to nearby shops. The fire brigade has arrived at the scene and is currently working to extinguish the flames.
According to reports, the fire started in a shop selling mattresses, mats, and other essential hospital items. Employees from a nearby hotel observed smoke emanating from the shop and promptly alerted the fire department. Despite efforts by locals to put out the fire, it quickly spread to nearby shops.
All the shops in the vicinity stock flammable goods. Fortunately, there were no casualties reported in the incident. Efforts to control the smoke and gain access to the affected shop are ongoing. Four units of the fire brigade are on-site, attempting to extinguish the fire. Additionally, policemen from the nearest A.R. camp have arrived to provide further assistance.
