Mumbai: In the ongoing IPL 2024 season, Sanju has emerged as the cricket fans’ choice for the best captain, steering the Rajasthan Royals to victory in all matches played so far. With an unbeaten record, the Rajasthan Royals currently lead the points table with six points from three matches.
Sanju’s decision to field first after winning the toss at the Wankhede Stadium, despite the pitch being batting-friendly, surprised many fans. However, he clarified the reason behind his choice.
Sanju explained that he realized the importance of the toss, especially considering the pitch conditions. Initially, the pitch wasn’t favorable to the batsmen. However, having experienced bowlers like Trent Boult and Andre Burger on the team gave him confidence in their bowling unit. He said that he didn’t expect RR bowlers to take four wickets in just 20 runs in the first four overs. He added that the decision to field first became the game-changer.
Sanju emphasised the importance of giving everyone a chance and recognising their role. Sanju Samson mentioned that players like Ashwin and Chahal recognised the team’s strong performance during the powerplay, and they focused on maintaining tight bowling without aggressively seeking wickets. Regarding Chahal, Sanju Samson expressed that he seemed particularly motivated for this IPL, noting his consistent performance over the past 2–3 years.
