Chandigarh: Sushma Swaraj was a larger than life personality and commanded the love and respect from everyone across the political spectrum. As a mark of respect to the BJP leader the Punjab Government has ordered a half-day leave for all government organizations government run schools.
In a statement the Punjab government said, “Punjab declares a half-day holiday n govt offices as mark of respect to Former External Affairs Sushma Swaraj. The holiday will be for the second half of the day (afternoon).”
Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh expressed his grief in a tweet, “Shocked to learn of the sudden demise of Sushma Swaraj Ji. I will always remember her as a dynamic and sensitive leader with the ability to empathize with the common people. Will miss her. May your soul rest in peace!”
Earlier the AAP led government in Delhi announced a two-day mourning in the state. Sushma Swaraj was the former Chief Minister of Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal in a tweet said, “India has lost a great leader. Sushma ji was a warm and remarkable person. May her soul rest in peace. She was former CM of Delhi. Delhi will pay its respect by observing state mourning for two days.”
Sushma Swaraj died of a massive cardiac arrest yesterday night at AIIMS hospital. She was 67.
She has been cremated with full state honors at Lodhi Road crematorium. Senior leaders and people from all walks of life were present for her final journey.
