New Delhi: Senior leader of Communist Party of India (CPI) and former Parliamentarian, Gurudas Dasgupta, passed away, today, at Kolkata. He was suffering from heart and kidney related problems. He was 83.
The veteran communist leader was selected to the Rajya Sabha three times and also won to the Lok Sabha two times and was one of the tallest communist leader in the country. He was elected to Lok Sabha in 2004 and became one of the members of the Revenue and Accounting Committees.
The communist leader became General Secretary of the All India Trade Union Congress in 2001.
Gurudas Dasgupta was re-elected in 2009 and was the leader of CPI in the House and was member of different committees.
The communist leader was detained in 1965 under the Defence of India Rules and had gone underground during the Congress rule in West Bengal.
