New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday reacted to US President Donald Trump’s statement where the latter allegedly signaled of a “retaliation” over India’s ban on export of a key anti-malaria drug – hydroxychloroquine, for the treatment of coronavirus.
Rahul Gandhi said that Friendship is not about retaliation and lifesaving medicines should be made first available to Indians.
Gandhi tweeted, “Friendship isn’t about retaliation. India must help all nations in their hour of need but lifesaving medicines should be made available to Indians in ample quantities first.”

India had in last month put a ban on export of 26 pharmaceutical ingredients and the medicines made from them, including hydroxychloroquine in order to keep in tact adequate stock of medicines for the country during the outbreak of coronavirus.
The Indian government has finally decided to licence paracetamol and Hydroxychloroquine in appropriate quantities to all neighbouring countries who are dependent on India’s capabilities.
“We will also be supplying these essential drugs to some nations who have been particularly badly affected by the pandemic,” Foreign Ministry spokesperson Anurag Srivastava said.
