Thiruvananthapuram: After the Centre announced extension of the coronavirus lockdown for next two more weeks, the Kerala government has issued a new guideline that states Sundays to be a complete off for everything including vehicle movement.

Public transport, public gathering, malls, liquor shops, religious places, cinema theatres, bars, barbershops, beauty parlours, gyms and educational institutions will not be allowed to open across the state.

Government offices shall resume function but with only 50 per cent attendance of group A and B employees an 33 per cent attendance of group C and D category staff. They can also provide non-essential services.

The Chief Minister said that the zone list can alter as per the situation and the containment zones within Red zones will have “full lockdown with no exemptions.”

In the Green Zone, shops can function between 7 am and 7.30 pm for six days of the week and taxi services can operate with two passengers. Inter-district travel may be permitted for a maximum of two persons.

Alappuzha, Thrissur and Ernakulam are under Green Zone, while Kottayam and Kannur under Red Zone. The remaining districts are in Orange Zone.

“There are 499 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Kerala and 96 patients are under treatment in different districts in the State,” Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said.
