Kollam: The mystery behind Kollam woman’s death was revealed on Sunday after crime branch probed into the matter and found that her husband carried out a pre-planned murder.

The 25-year-old Uthra was murdered by her husband Sooraj with the help of a snake that he had bought from his accomplice for Rs 10,000.

During the interrogation, the accused confessed to the crime.

“In connection with the death of Uthra, her husband Sooraj and his friend Suresh, a snake catcher, who sold the snake, have been arrested after a detailed interrogation on Sunday,” said Kollam Rural SP Harisankar.

The incident took place on May 6 night at Uthra’s house when Sooraj brought a snake, hid it inside a bag and threw it on his wife, who was sleeping. He ensured that the snake bit her twice. However, he failed to recapture the snake in a container and it crawled under the cupboard. He was awake all night and fled the spot early morning. The parents of the woman later found her dead in the room.

The parents of Uthra expressed their suspicion to the police as this was the second time that the snake bit her.

Earlier, on March 2 when she was at Sooraj’s house, a viper had bit her but fortunately she was saved.

“He gained confidence from the first act. The man took 98 sovereigns of gold and cash as dowry for most of the gold he sold,” the police said.
