Kerala to resume liquor sales from Thursday

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has given a nod to resume liquor sales in the state, that was ceased post the first phase of lockdown.

The state cabinet meet held on Wednesday gave the nod for liquor sales through Beverages Corporation outlets and bars.

Liquors can now be purchased from different outlets by booking a slot in the virtual queue through the BevQ app, Excise Minister T P Ramakrishnan said on Wednesday. It will be sold from 9 am to 5 pm and bookings can be done from 6 am to 10 pm.

576 bar hotels in the state will be permitted to sell liquor through counters. Only five persons to be in a virtual queue at a time. At the same time, 291 out of 360 beer and wine parlours have agreed to sell liquor through the BevQ app, the minister said.

The Google granted permission for the app, developed by Faircode on Tuesday.

Through the app, users will be able to make online bookings and get virtual tokens with which liquor could be bought from the prescribed outlets or bars at a specified time. 50 paise will be charged per token by BevCo.

However, Virtual token is a temporary provision, said the Minister.
