Kannur: Unable to trace the source of contraction of coronavirus in certain cases, Kannur city has completely shut down. The district collector has ordered the closure of 11 divisions of the corporation and that no shops to be opened except the medical store.
All roads except the National Highway have been closed. Police inspection has also been resumed on the entry points to the city.
The strict lockdown restriction have been enforced in the district after a 14-year-old got infected with coronavirus through contract.
At the same time, healthcare workers of COVID-19, offices, exams and exam evaluation have been exempted from the restriction.
“As of now, there is no evidence to prove there is a community spread in the city limits. However, with restrictions eased rapidly since Unlock-1, there have been a number of instances of people under home quarantine socialising in public which is a matter of concern. The health authorities need to be more vigilant to ensure such situations don’t repeat”, said Dr Sharath, a senior physician at a private clinic in Kannur.
