Kerala: Capital to be under strict restriction after spike in COVID-19 cases

Thiruvananthapuram: As the number of coronavirus cases is increasing daily, strict restrictions will be enforced in the capital city. Restrictions will also be liable to businesses and shopping malls. The license of the shops who do not comply with the restrictions will also be revoked.

These restrictions will continue for the next 10 days.

With the spike in coronavirus cases in Thiruvananthapuram, the administration decided to impose strict restrictions. The source of most of the cases are unknown. The number of infected patients and quarantined people surged following which the containment zones have been completely shut down.

In addition, the city’s shopping centers and markets will be under strict restrictions. Though the restriction has been imposed for ten days, it might be extended if the situation worsens.

The vegetable markets in the district can be opened only on Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. The supermarkets in the shopping malls can be opened on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Grocery stores and other shops are allowed to open on alternate days. The sale of meat will be allowed only till 11 am.

There will be four health squads to check the condition of the shops in the city. Thiruvananthapuram district is yet to find the source of infection in 13 patients.

Meanwhile, two wards of Thiruvananthapuram Corporation have been declared as containment zones. Karikkakam (Ward No. 91) and Kadakkampally (Ward No.92) are declared as containment zones. Lockdown restriction in these two containment zones will be strictly enforced.
