Prashant Bhushan guilty of Contempt for tweets on Chief Justice, Judiciary: SC

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday held advocate Prashant Bhushan guilty of contempt of court for his tweets against the judiciary.

“These charges are serious charges against the contemnor,” a three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, said while pronouncing the verdict through video conferencing.

Further hearings on the argument will be on August 20.

Bhushan who has been accused of his tweets on past CJIs and judiciary had expressed his regret but the top court refused and reserved its order in the matter.

Bhushan in his first tweet on June 29 where he commented on a picture of CJI Sharad Arvind Bobde on a luxurious bike worth Rs 50 lakh.

His second tweet read, “When historians in the future look back at the last 6 years to see how democracy has been destroyed in India even without a formal Emergency, they will particularly mark the role of the Supreme Court in this destruction, and more particularly the role of the last 4 CJIs.”
