Mumbai: As the Bollywood’s iconic film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is celebrating 25 years of its release, the distributors have decided to re-release the film across the world on Thursday.
Associate Vice President-International Distribution, Nelson D’Souza said, “DDLJ is a film that made people fall in love and has constantly won hearts whenever it has been screened across the world. On its special 25th anniversary, we are very happy to announce that we are re-releasing ‘DDLJ’ so that audiences can celebrate this cult classic.”
The Shah Rukh Khan-Kajol starrer film will be re-released across Germany, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, USA, UK, Canada, Mauritius, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Norway, Sweden, Spain, Switzerland, Estonia and Finland to begin with.
Directed by Aditya Chopra in his directorial debut, produced by his father Yash Chopra, and written by Javed Siddiqui with Aditya Chopra, DDLJ earned ₹1.06 billion (valued at about US$32,766,000 in 1995) in India and ₹160 million (valued at about US$4,946,000 in 1995) overseas. It became the highest grossing Bollywood film of the year, and one of the most successful Indian films in history. It won 10 Filmfare Awards—the most for a single film at that time—and the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment. Its soundtrack album became one of the most popular of the 1990s.
