Counting of votes begins in Puducherry

Counting of votes for the April 6 Assembly elections in the Union Territory began at 0800 hrs on Sunday under strict Covid measures.

More than 10 lakh voters had exercised their franchise to decide the electoral fortune of 324 candidates in the fray, including, former Chief Minister and NR Congress President N Rangaswamy.

As many as 1,558 polling booths (952 main booths and 606 auxiliary booths) were set up in 635 locations in the UT.

The prominent candidates in the fray are former Chief Minister V Narayanasamy, Ex-Ministers A Namassivayam, Shajahan, Kamalakannan, Kandasamy, Panneerselvam,and Kalyanasundaram besides 35 women candidates.
