New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple on the evening of the 15th of January. He will also inaugurate the central tourism ministry’s developmental initiative to improve the infrastructure of the temple and its premises, said Alphons Kannanthanam, the Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism. The Rs. 75.88 crore project is part of the Swadeshi Darshan scheme of the tourism ministry. The improvements under the project include construction of the heritage walk corridor, restoration of the Padmatheertham, electrification, installation of bio-toilets and bathrooms, improvements in security, and software for the digital museum among other things.
Swadeshi Darshan is a Central Sector Scheme that targets integrated development of theme-based tourist circuits in the country. The inaugural function will see a host of dignitaries including the Governor, Justice P. Sadasivam, Union Minister Alphons Kannanthanam, Tourism Secretary Yogendra Tripathi, State Tourism Minister Kadakampalli Surendran, MP Shashi Tharoor, VS Sivakumar MLA, and Thiruvananthapuram Mayor, V K Prashanth.
