Kochi: Communist party’s intolerant stance against upright police officers of the State continues with CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan saying that Chaithra Teresa John was spared of disciplinary action just because she was a young officer.

Kodiyeri Balakrishnan stated that the decision to raid the communist party office by the police officer as wrong. He added that she was let of without any disciplinary action just because of her young age.

The party leader continued that inaction against the erring police officer must be seen as generosity by the communist party and the government.

Chaithra Teresea John, Deputy Commissioner of Police, shot to fame when she raided the Thiruvananthapuram district office of CPM. She was searching for suspects, belonging to DYFI, who pelted stones at the Medical College police station.

The suspects were demanding to visit two communist workers arrested in connection with child abuse. When the police officer in charge denied their demands, the suspects began to attack the police station with stones.

The government drew flak from the public when it tried to take disciplinary action against the officer. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had admonished the IPS officer for her bold actions. Fearing the huge support for the young dynamic officer, the government did not take further action.

Kodiyeri’s remarks came at a time when the party was facing another controversy in which Communist Party MLA, S. Rajendran publically insulted Devikulam Sub Collector Dr. Renu Raj.

Instances of communist party leaders publically harassing and threatening civil service cadres is on the rise and has seriously affected the morale of upright officers in Kerala who do not toe the official line.
