Kochi: The drug menace in Kerala is increasing at a rapid pace and the law enforcement forces are failing to curb it. The helplessness of the police force is evident after Kochi City Police Commissioner said that even children of senior police officers are drug addicts.
The Police Commissioner, K Sethuraman IPS cited example of two children of a Superintendent of Police who were drug addicts. He added that the drug usage is spreading fast among the youth. He wondered if the children of senior police officers fall prey to drug mafia then what would be the condition of those who belong to society’s lower strata.
He advised the police officers to take own initiative to look into it and always check what is happening in their quarters.
The statement of the Kochi Police Commissioner has come as a shock to the people of Kochi. Recently, the Indian Navy and NCB confiscated drugs from a boat that amounts to Rs.25,000 crores off the coast of Kochi. A Pakistani citizen has been detained in the operation.
It is believed that the profits from drugs sale is used to fund terrorism as Narendra Modi government has blocked the hawala movements.
