Varanasi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during a video conference address at the G20 Development Ministers’ Meeting in Varanasi, highlighted the transformative impact of digitalization in India and drew attention to the growing data divide. He stressed the importance of high-quality data for effective policymaking, efficient resource allocation, and improved public service delivery.

PM Modi emphasised that democratising technology is a crucial tool in bridging the data divide. He expressed his satisfaction that the G20 development agenda has reached Varanasi, emphasising that development is a significant concern for the global south. He urged collective responsibility to prevent the sustainable development goals from lagging behind and emphasised the need to ensure that no one is left behind.

Modi further stated that comprehensive, inclusive, fair, and sustainable efforts are necessary. In India, initiatives have been undertaken to enhance the lives of people in over 100 determined districts that were previously areas of underdevelopment.

Reports indicate that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar and other G20 delegates experienced the cultural aspects of Varanasi by attending the Ganga Aarti on Sunday evening. Speaking at the meeting, Jaishankar highlighted India’s ambitious seven-year action plan for accelerating progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The plan presents a coordinated, integrated, and inclusive roadmap for G20 actions, demonstrating a strong commitment to the development agenda and proposing transformative actions across three core agendas.
