Las Vegas: Hollywood actor and comedian Bill Cosby is facing yet another sexual assault lawsuit, this time in the state of Nevada. Nine women have collectively filed a case in the U.S. District Court for Nevada, accusing Cosby of using his “enormous power, fame, and prestige” to isolate and sexually assault them.
According to the lawsuit filed on Wednesday, the women claim that they were individually drugged and assaulted between approximately 1979 and 1992 in various locations such as homes, dressing rooms, and hotels in Las Vegas, Reno, and Lake Tahoe.
One of the plaintiffs alleges that Cosby, posing as her acting mentor, enticed her from New York to Nevada, where he drugged her in a hotel room with what he claimed to be non-alcoholic sparkling cider and then raped her.
This new lawsuit adds to the numerous allegations Cosby has faced over the years. More than 60 women have accused him of rape, sexual assault, and sexual harassment. Cosby has consistently denied all allegations related to sexual crimes. He became the first celebrity to be tried and convicted in the #MeToo era, serving nearly three years in a state prison near Philadelphia before his conviction was overturned, leading to his release in 2021. Earlier this year, a Los Angeles jury awarded $500,000 to a woman who claimed Cosby sexually abused her at the Playboy Mansion when she was 16 years old in 1975.
Although Cosby was initially convicted of a criminal sexual assault charge in Pennsylvania in April 2018, his release from prison in 2021 came after the state Supreme Court overturned the conviction. The 85-year-old actor-comedian has since discussed plans for a comedy tour.
In this latest lawsuit, the women allege that Cosby exploited his power and fame and claimed an interest in helping them or their careers as a pretext to isolate and sexually assault them. The case adds to the ongoing legal challenges surrounding Cosby’s alleged sexual misconduct.
