Dhanka: The third day of the test match between Afghanistan and Bangladesh proved to be an eventful one, with Bangladesh asserting their dominance and putting themselves in a commanding position. As play concluded, Afghanistan faced an arduous task ahead, requiring an impressive 617 runs to secure an unlikely victory, with only eight wickets remaining in hand.

Bangladesh, resuming their second innings at 425-4, wasted no time in piling on the pressure on their opponents. In a bold move, they declared their innings after an hour into the third session, setting a mammoth target for Afghanistan. If successful, Bangladesh could achieve the distinction of cricket’s second-largest Test victory margin.

The standout performance of the day came from Hossian Shanto, who displayed exceptional batting skills and resilience. Shanto scored a magnificent 124 runs from 151 balls, emerging as the top scorer for Bangladesh in their second innings. His brilliant knock included an array of boundaries and demonstrated his ability to dominate the Afghan bowlers.

Joining Shanto in the run-scoring spree was Haque, who contributed a solid 121 runs to the team’s total. Haque’s impressive batting display added to Afghanistan’s woes, as he provided crucial support to Bangladesh’s commanding position. With their significant contributions, Shanto and Haque secured the first and second-highest scores of the innings, respectively.
Afghanistan, tasked with a herculean chase, faced a challenging start to their innings. Losing two early wickets, they concluded the day’s play with a total of 48 runs on the board after 13 overs. The pressure will be on Afghanistan’s remaining batsmen to showcase resilience and determination as they face the uphill battle of bridging the enormous run deficit.
