Chennai: The Indian squash team’s journey in the ongoing Squash World Cup 2023 came to an end as they suffered a defeat to Malaysia in the semifinals. Despite their valiant efforts, India succumbed to a 0-3 loss against the fourth-seeded Malaysian team, ending their hopes of lifting the prestigious trophy.
In the semifinal clash, India faced a tough challenge against Malaysia’s formidable squash players. Despite their best efforts, the Indian team was unable to secure a victory in any of the three matches. The final scoreline of 0-3 showcased the dominance displayed by the Malaysian players throughout the encounter.
The individual match results from the Squash World Cup conducted on Saturday are as follows: Ong Sai Hung triumphed over Abhay Sing in a closely fought battle, with a scoreline of 3-2. Aira Azman also emerged victorious against Joshna Chinappa, again with a tight margin of 3-2. Dareen Pragasam secured another win for Malaysia, defeating Saurav Ghosal with a score of 3-1.
The Indian team began their Squash World Cup campaign on a positive note by defeating Hong Kong 4-0 in a Pool B match. They continued their winning streak by overpowering South Africa with a convincing 4-0 victory in their second match, thereby securing a spot in the semifinals. In their final Pool stage match against Japan, India displayed their dominance once again, emerging triumphant to win all three matches in the Pool stage.
