Fatorda – FC Goa has officially announced the signing of Indian football stalwart Sandesh Jhingan, solidifying their defensive lineup for the upcoming season. Jhingan, renowned as the commander-in-chief of the Indian national team’s defense, has inked a three-year contract with the club. The 29-year-old center back’s arrival marks the third addition of an Indian international to the FC Goa roster this summer, following the signings of Rowllin Borges and Udanta Singh.
Having been a prominent figure in the Indian Super League since its inception, Jhingan has reached the finals on four different occasions, notably in 2014, 2016, 2021, and 2023. With his move to FC Goa, Jhingan is determined to lift the coveted ISL trophy, a feat that has eluded him thus far.
Jhingan made his mark in the league when he was selected by Kerala Blasters during the inaugural player draft in 2014. Over the subsequent six seasons, he emerged as a linchpin in the Kerala Blasters’ defense, eventually assuming the role of club captain.
In the 2020-21 seasons, Jhingan joined ATK Mohun Bagan before seizing an opportunity to ply his trade in the Croatian top division with HNK Sibenik. Notably, the recently concluded 2022-23 season saw Jhingan don the jersey of Bengaluru FC, with whom he clinched the prestigious Durand Cup last September.
FC Goa, known for their attacking prowess, now adds Jhingan’s defensive acumen and leadership qualities to their squad. His arrival is expected to bolster the team’s backline and provide invaluable experience to the younger players within the club.
