JP Nadda, the National President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), announced that the Narendra Modi government is undertaking significant infrastructure improvements in Kerala. The narrow highways in the state are being expanded into six lanes, meeting international standards. To support this initiative, the central government has allocated a substantial budget of Rs 55,000 crore for the development of National Highway 66.
Nadda made this statement during the inauguration of the Vishal Janasabha of the BJP Thiruvananthapuram Constituency, where he highlighted the rapid progress of the construction of the 1,266 km long road.
In addition, the Modi government has allocated Rs 50,000 crore for the development of the Kanyakumari Corridor, which will enhance travel along the Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode routes. The existing four-lane roads in Kerala are being upgraded to six-lane highways.
During his visit to Kerala, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced projects worth Rs 3,200 crore for the development of railways in the state. Notably, he gifted the Vande Bharat train to Kerala. The central government has also sanctioned funds for the second phase of the Kochi Metro, while the budget for Metro Water has been allocated to support the development of Kerala.
The railway stations in Kozhikode, Ernakulam, Thiruvananthapuram, and Kollam are being upgraded to meet world-class standards.
JP Nadda further highlighted the progress made by the Indian Railways, stating that the country’s track-building capacity has increased from 6 km per day before 2014 to 14 km per day now.
He also emphasized the welfare measures implemented by the central government, such as the provision of free food grains to 80 crore people across the country for three years, surpassing the total population of Europe. Additionally, under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, more than 4 crore houses have been constructed for Indian citizens. In Kerala, 20 lakh thirty-three thousand farmers are benefiting from the Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme.
Nadda accused the Kerala state government of concealing the development work carried out by the Modi government in the state.
India has successfully navigated the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, with the country experiencing the lowest inflation rate in the world.
While global leaders have recognized Narendra Modi’s leadership, some opposition members have criticized him. Rahul Gandhi, who belongs to a political dynasty, recently visited the United States and claimed that there is no democracy in India. However, Nadda asserted that India has moved away from family rule and nepotism, and all other political parties are focused on their respective development agendas. He criticized the unity displayed by opposition parties during a meeting in Patna, labeling it as mere theatrics for a photo opportunity.
JP Nadda raised concerns about corruption in Kerala, particularly referencing the embarrassing AI camera scam. He also revealed that out of the 35 individuals involved in terrorist activities abroad, 21 of them hail from Kerala.
The function was presided over by BJP state president K. Surendran and attended by Union Ministers V. Muralidharan and Shobha Karandlaje. Other leaders, including Prakash Javadekar, Radha Mohan Aggarwal, former state presidents O. Rajagopal, Kummanam Rajasekharan, PK Krishnadas, and District President VV Rajesh, were also present.
