Kyiv: On Tuesday evening, a tragic incident occurred in Kramatorsk, eastern Ukraine, where a Russian missile struck a busy area, resulting in the deaths of at least four individuals, including a child. Multiple others also sustained injuries in the attack. The Chief of the Military Administration for the Donetsk area, Pavlo Kyrylenko, stated that the incident took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that one of the victims was a 17-year-old child, and an eight-month-old baby was among the injured. Additionally, it was revealed that three foreigners were among those killed. Kyrylenko expressed the ongoing efforts to determine the number of wounded and potential fatalities in the city, emphasising that the targeted locations were crowded public eating establishments in the city centre.

Ihor Klymenko, Ukraine’s Minister of Internal Affairs asserted that Russia intentionally aimed at densely populated areas, describing the acts as acts of terror. In an evening address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reiterated the grave consequences Russia should face for its actions, emphasising the need for defeat and fair legal trials for all Russian individuals involved in murder and acts of terrorism.

In a separate incident on June 27, Russian soldiers used a Kh-22 missile holding around 900 kilograms of explosives to strike Kremenchuk in Poltava Oblast, according to Governor Dmytro Lunin. Notably, Russian forces used the same missile type a year ago to target a retail centre in Kremenchuk, killing 21 people and wounding 77 more.

Emergency services swiftly responded to the scenes of both attacks, providing aid to the injured. The war between Russia and Ukraine, which commenced on February 24, 2022, has claimed numerous lives, and tensions between the two nations continue to escalate.
