Earlier rumours in the media said that actor Shah Rukh Khan might be replaced as the eponymous character in the forthcoming instalment of the Don series, helmed by Farhan Akhtar. The rumours suggested that actor Ranveer Singh had been chosen to play the iconic character, and the official announcement was scheduled to be made today, coinciding with the actor’s birthday. It was believed that Ranveer had already completed a promotional shoot for the film, adding to the anticipation of the announcement.
However, a source from an entertainment portal revealed that there was a last-minute change of plans. Ranveer had strategically planned to release the trailer of his film “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani” a few days before his birthday, intending to leave the date open for the Don 3 announcement. However, today the teaser of the Telugu movie “Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire,” starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran, was announced, and the team felt it might not be the best timing to make the Don 3 announcement. Consequently, the entire plan was put on hold. While the new announcement date remains uncertain, the source suggests that it might take place in August if “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahani” performs well at the box office.
Once Ranveer completes his work on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Baiju Bawra,” Don 3 is expected to begin filming. The film could potentially be a major release for Ranveer in 2025, with Farhan Akhtar returning to the director’s chair after several years.
Earlier reports mentioned that the announcement video had been showcased to various industry insiders, who expressed excitement about the concept and praised Ranveer as the new Don. The first Don film was released in 2006, while the sequel was released in 2011, both starring Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra. Farhan Akhtar directed both flicks.
The 2006 Don movie itself was a remake of the 1978 film of the same name, which starred Amitabh Bachchan in the iconic role. The remake brought new elements to the original story and reimagined it in a contemporary setting.
