London: The British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) has suspended a prominent broadcaster who had paid a minor for sexually explicit images after key British MPs urged the network to conduct an immediate investigation into the allegations.
The public broadcaster is under fire after a tabloid claimed on Sunday that the male presenter paid an anonymous kid, who was 17 at the time, GBP 35,000 (approx. ₹37 lakhs) for the photos beginning in 2020. According to the teenager’s mother, the star appeared in his underwear, “waiting for my child to perform for him.”
The mother of the young person said that her child, who is now 20 years old, spent the money on crack cocaine. She informed the newspaper that if the presenter did not stop giving money, her child would die. According to the newspaper, the family complained to the BBC on May 19 about the broadcaster.
The identity of the accused broadcaster, who has yet to be disclosed, sparked speculation on social media, and many of the BBC’s most well-known faces distanced themselves from the subject. Although the legal age of sexual consent in the United Kingdom is 16, it is a crime to create or possess indecent photos of anyone under the age of 18.
