THRISSUR: In a recent inspection at the new bus stand in Kunnamkulam, two bus drivers were apprehended by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol. The arrests were made following a surprise inspection prompted by numerous complaints alleging that private bus drivers frequently operated their vehicles while intoxicated.

The offenders, identified as Anwar from Andathode and Rabilesh from Eyyal, were taken into custody by the authorities. As a result of their actions, the buses they were operating were impounded. The police have announced that they decided to submit a report for the cancellation of the drivers’ licenses, further highlighting the gravity of the offense.

Emphasizing their commitment to combatting this dangerous practice, the Cherpulassery Police declared that similar surprise inspections would continue in the future. They issued a stern warning to those who flout the law, asserting that such actions would be closely monitored.

Notably, there has been a concerning trend of minors riding two-wheelers in violation of the Juvenile Act. Over the past two months alone, ten cases have been documented. These violations have resulted in substantial penalties amounting to approximately Rs 2.5 lakh. In response, legal action has been taken against both the vehicle owners and the parents of the underage riders, underscoring the seriousness with which these offenses are treated.
