Rajnath Singh meets Malaysian PM Anwar Ibrahim, discusses defence cooperation

Kuala Lumpur: Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had a productive meeting with Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on Monday, focusing on the evaluation of defence cooperation between the two nations.

Taking to Twitter, The Union Minister said,”Called on the Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mr @anwaribrahim in Kuala Lumpur. Deeply appreciate his positive approach and interest towards further deepening India-Malaysia bilateral relations.”

In a series of tweets, Malaysia’s Prime Minister tweeted, “In this meeting, we were able to evaluate the defence cooperation between Malaysia and India as well as discuss new forms of cooperation that can be explored together.”

Ibrahim also mentioned being informed about the exchange of letters (EOL) to amend the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on defence cooperation between the two countries, which has been completed by the respective ministers.

Following the meeting with the Prime Minister, Rajnath Singh met with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir. They engaged in discussions covering various topics of mutual interest, aimed at further enhancing the Indian-Malaysia Enhanced Strategic Partnership,” said Singh.

Rajnath Singh’s three-day official visit to Malaysia, beginning on Sunday, is aimed at strengthening defence cooperation between the two countries. During his visit, Singh paid a courtesy visit to the Malaysian Defence Ministry office and inspected the Main Guard of Honour presented by the 1st Battalion of the Royal Malay Soldier Regiment.

Furthermore, he held a meeting with his Malaysian counterpart, Mohamad Haji Hasan, where they discussed extensive bilateral defence engagement and outlined a roadmap for the 4th Decade of India-Malaysia Defence Cooperation.
