Kathmandu: Nepal’s official said a helicopter carrying six people, including five foreign nationals, went missing near Mount Everest on Tuesday morning. According to Tribhuvan International Airport General Manager Pratap Babu Tiwari, the chopper, with call sign 9N-AMV, went contactless 15 minutes into the flight.
The chopper had taken off from Surki in Solukhumbu for the capital Kathmandu at 9:45 a.m., the Kathmandu Post newspaper quoted Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Information Officer Gyanendra Bhul as saying.
While further details remain scarce, initial reports suggest that the helicopter was carrying a total of six individuals. The pilot in command was identified as Senior Captain Chet Gurung, according to a source cited by the Himalayan Times newspaper. The exact circumstances surrounding the disappearance are yet to be determined, as search and rescue operations are underway.
