Bangkok: Jyothi Yarraji made history on Thursday as she secured India’s first gold medal in the Asian Athletics Championship 2023, held in Bangkok. The talented athlete emerged victorious in the women’s 100-metre hurdles, crossing the finish line with a remarkable time of 13.09 seconds on the competition’s second day.

The 23-year-old showcased her exceptional skills and determination, leaving her competitors trailing behind. Despite the rain-drenched track at Supachalasai Stadium, Jyothi demonstrated her agility and speed, clinching the gold medal in a highly competitive field.

Jyothi’s victory was hard-fought, as she faced tough competition from Japanese athletes Terada Asuka and Aoki Masumi, who secured the silver and bronze medals, respectively. Terada finished closely behind Jyothi with a time of 13.13 seconds, while Aoki crossed the line at 13.26 seconds.

The Indian hurdler’s achievement is even more impressive considering her national record stands at an impressive 12.82 seconds, showcasing her exceptional talent and potential.
