THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former SFI leader Nikhil Thomas has been granted bail in a case related to a fake degree certificate. The High Court approved the bail under certain conditions, and the decision was made by Justice Ziyad Rahman.
Nikhil Thomas, who previously served as the Alappuzha area committee secretary of SFI, was apprehended on June 23 in Kottayam by a special investigation team. He was accused of securing admission to the M Com program at MSM College, Kayamkulam using a counterfeit degree certificate. The authenticity of the certificates was verified by the Vice Chancellor of Kerala University, the Registrar of Kalinga University, and the Principal of MSM College, all of whom confirmed their falsity.
It came to light that Nikhil had obtained admission to MSM College with the help of a recommendation from a CPI(I) leader, as the college management had facilitated the process. However, subsequent investigations revealed the fraudulent nature of the certificates presented by him.
