Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has revealed the 20-member Indian women’s cricket team, along with five stand-by players, for the upcoming Asian Games 2023 to be held in Hangzhou, the Republic of China, from September to October. Harmanpreet Kaur has been appointed as the captain of the team, while Smriti Mandhana will serve as the deputy captain.

The Indian women’s cricket team for the Asian Games includes notable players such as Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma, Deepti Sharma, and Richa Ghosh and Minnu Mani among others. The women’s cricket event at the Asian Games 2023 will be played in the T20 format from September 19 to 28, with all matches scheduled to take place at the Zhejiang University of Technology Pingfeng Cricket Field.

This marks the first time that India is sending both men’s and women’s teams to the Asian Games cricket competition. Cricket has previously been featured twice in the Asian Games, in Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014. In both editions, Pakistan emerged victorious in the women’s events by defeating Bangladesh in the finals.

The matches in the upcoming edition of the Asian Games have been granted international status by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Renuka Singh Thakur, the highest wicket-taker at the Commonwealth Games 2022 cricket tournament with 11 wickets in five matches, did not make the cut for the Asian Games squad.

The Indian women’s cricket team for the Asian Games 2023 is as follows: Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Deepti Sharma, Richa Ghosh (wicket-keeper), Amanjot Kaur, Devika Vaidya, Anjali Sarvani, Titas Sadhu, Rajeshwari Gayakwad, Minnu Mani, Kanika Ahuja, Uma Chetry (wicket-keeper), Anusha Bareddy.

Standby players: Harleen Deol, Kashvee Gautam, Sneh Rana, Saika Ishaque, Pooja Vastrakar.
