New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra modi on Friday said that India has the potential to become one of the largest providers of skilled workforce in the world. Amidst the era of the 4th Industrial Revolution, PM Modi emphasised that technology has become and will continue to be a significant driving force for employment opportunities.

Speaking at the conclusion of the 4th G20 Employment Working Group (EWG) and Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meetings, which took place on July 19 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, PM Modi conveyed his confidence that the meeting would send a powerful message regarding the welfare of workers worldwide, through a video message.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for hosting this meeting in a country that has already witnessed numerous technology-led transformations. He highlighted the city of Indore, which is a hub for startups and is leading the way in embracing these transformations.

PM Modi praised India’s ‘eShram portal,’ which has seen an impressive 280 million registrations and is being utilised for targeted interventions to support workers. He further urged other nations to adopt similar solutions, given the transnational nature of work in the modern world.

In addressing the issue of social protection coverage in India, PM Modi stressed the importance of considering elements such as universal public health, food security, and insurance and pension programmes. He suggested tailoring solutions based on the unique economic capacities, strengths, and challenges faced by each country, as a one-size-fits-all approach is not sustainable for financing social protection measures.

Earlier, Arti Ahuja, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, announced that the focus of the fourth Employment Working Group (EWG) meeting was on finalising the Ministerial Declaration and outcome documents during a press conference on Wednesday.
